Welcome to our Clinic
THE CARPAL TUNNEL CLINIC GOLD COAST
The Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast is Queensland’s first dedicated carpal tunnel clinic operating out of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (MISC). Centrally located in Southport on the Gold Coast, MISC is a unique purpose-built Accredited Day Hospital facility. MISC combines state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge techniques. Pioneers of the revolutionary Ultrasound-Guided Carpal Tunnel Release procedure, our unique purpose-built facility combines state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge techniques performed by our orthopedically trained doctors to deliver faster, less painful treatment options with minimal recovery time.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common but painful hand condition caused by pressure on a nerve running through the wrist (the median nerve). Although it is quite common, it is often not treated quickly enough, leading to prolonged pain and, in chronic cases, irreversible median nerve damage.
The Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast expedites treatment by assisting patients through every step of the process, from consultation to diagnosis, imaging, nerve conduction studies, non-operative interventions, and surgery, all in our centrally located Southport facility.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE

Carpal Tunnel Release
Here at The Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast, our doctors perform the surgery under local anaesthetic using ultrasound guidance. The procedure is called Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release (USGCTR), otherwise known as ultra minimally invasive carpal tunnel release. The Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast was the first clinic on the Gold Coast to regularly perform this procedure. This innovative technique allows patients a much quicker recovery time compared to traditional Open Carpal Tunnel Release.
Ultrasound-guided carpal Tunnel Release (USGCTR) is performed by our surgeons under local anaesthesia as an outpatient procedure (meaning it is done in a non-hospital setting). The doctor makes a tiny 1-2mm puncture wound above the palm, and the doctor cuts (releases) the transverse carpal ligament, thus relieving the pressure on the median nerve.

Cubital Tunnel Release
Severe cases of cubital tunnel syndrome (ulnar nerve compression at the elbow) are sometimes treated surgically by us at the Carpal Tunnel Clinic in our operating theatre at MISC (The Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre).
Endoscopic Cubital Tunnel Release is a “Key Hole” technique that allows decompression of the ulnar nerve from the mid-arm to the mid-forearm via a small 2 cm incision at the elbow. This technique allows a complete release of the nerve without a large incision. We rarely perform nerve transposition at MISC, as this technique may devascularize (destroy the blood supply) to the nerve.
More commonly, at MISC, our doctors recommend ultrasound-guided hydrodissection of the ulnar nerve at the elbow and either PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or corticosteroid injection. These techniques are performed using tiny needle puncture wounds, with recovery in a matter of hours and may avoid the need for surgery altogether. Our internal Nerve Conduction Study results have shown a return to normal nerve function in mild, moderate and even severe cases of cubital tunnel syndrome.

Trigger Finger Release
Traditionally, patients have required open surgery for Trigger Finger Release. However, here at the Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast, our doctors offer ultra-minimally invasive trigger finger release via a 1 to 2mm puncture wound in the finger. The technique allows doctors to release the A1 pulley without a long incision. The procedure is called USGTFR or Ultrasound Guided Trigger Finger Release and utilises a tiny device known as a hook knife or even just an 18 18-gauge hypodermic needle. This ultra-minimally invasive procedure is done under local anaesthetic and uses ultrasound guidance to visualise the instrument as it cuts the pulley.
No sutures are required; only a steri strip and bandage are applied. Patients can use their hands immediately after the surgery. The wound is so small that it usually heals or seals in 1 to 2 days.

Other Services
In addition to these surgeries, our doctors treat all other upper limb conditions relating to the elbow, hand, shoulder and sporting injuries within our other clinics. To find out about additional services provided by us, please see:
