SERVICES WE PROVIDE
The Gold Coast Carpal Tunnel Clinic offers ultrasound guided carpal tunnel release surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery and ultrasound guided interventions. These ultra-minimally invasive techniques offer faster, less-painful treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, meaning you can get back to work or daily activities sooner.
All our surgeries are performed without the need for general anaesthetic or sedation. This allows a much faster turnaround and most patients are in and out within one to two hours.
We are the only full-service clinic on the Gold Coast where carpal tunnel syndrome diagnosis, imaging, nerve conduction studies, non-operative treatment and surgery are all performed in the same facility.
Carpal Tunnel Release
Here at The Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast, Dr Maguire performs the surgery under local anaesthetic using ultrasound guidance. The procedure is called Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release (USGCTR) otherwise known as ultra minimally invasive carpal tunnel release. The Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast is the only clinic in Australia regularly doing this procedure. This innovative technique allows patients a much quicker recovery time when compared to traditional Open Carpal Tunnel Release.
Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release (USGCTR) is performed as an outpatient procedure (meaning it is done in a non-hospital setting) under local anaesthetic. A tiny 1-2mm puncture wound is made above the palm and Dr Maguire will cut (release) the transverse carpal ligament. This relieves the pressure on the median nerve.
Cubital Tunnel Release
Dr Maguire treats moderate and severe cases of cubital tunnel syndrome (ulnar nerve compression at the elbow) surgically.
Endoscopic Cubital Tunnel Release is a “Key Hole” technique, which allows decompression of the ulnar nerve from mid arm to mid forearm via a small 2 cm incision. This technique allows a complete release of the nerve without a large incision. Dr Maguire rarely performs transposition of the nerve as this technique may devascularise the nerve.
Trigger Finger Release
Traditionally open surgery is required for Trigger Finger Release but here at the Carpal Tunnel Clinic Gold Coast, Dr Maguire offers ultra minimally invasive release of trigger finger via a 1 to 2mm puncture wound in the finger. The technique allows the A1 pulley to be released without a long incision. The procedure is called USGTFR or Ultrasound Guided Trigger Finger Release and utilises a tiny device known as a hook knife. This ultra-minimally invasive procedure is done under local anaesthetic and uses ultrasound guidance to visualise the instrument as it cuts the pulley.
No sutures are required and only a steri strip and bandaid is applied. Patients can use the hand immediately after the surgery. The wound is so small it usually heals or seals in 2 to 3 days.
Other Services
Among these surgeries, Dr Maguire also regularly treats all other upper limb conditions relating to the elbow, hand, shoulder and sporting injuries within his other clinics. To find out about additional services provided by Dr Maguire, please see
