What to do?
If you have a GP referral
If you already have a GP referral and positive nerve conduction studies contact our staff on 07 5531 2222 or email us at info@thegcctc.com.au to book an appointment as soon as possible.
If you have positive nerve conduction studies you should contact us urgently to avoid potential damage to your median nerve.
If you do not have a GP referral
If you do not have a GP referral please contact us for assistance or visit your local GP for a referral. You require a GP referral to access Medicare rebates for all specialist appointments and services.
If you do not have a regular GP or cannot be seen by a GP urgently during business hours you can contact a number of after hours GP mobile services as they may be able to assist you with a referral after 6pm. Ideally, you should see your regular GP, if you have one, as they can provide us with more medical history. It is our preference for you to be referred by your regular GP, however, this is not essential.
If you do not have nerve conduction studies
If your symptoms are severe and you do not have nerve conduction studies we can assist you by helping you organise nerve conduction studies as soon as possible. Email us anytime at info@thegcctc.com.au or phone us on 07 5531 2222 from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and one of our friendly staff will assist you.
We do have the facility to perform nerve conduction studies in rooms, however, our preference is for nerve conduction studies to be performed by an independent third party such as a neurologist or a neurophysiologist.
What is the Medicare Safety Net and have I reached the threshold?
It is important for you to check whether you have reached the Medicare Safety Net prior to your initial consultation. You can check whether you have reached the Medicare Safety Net Threshold by either calling Medicare on 13 20 11 or checking through your MyGov account Medicare portal. Click here for further information on the Medicare Safety Net and how to check if you have reached the threshold.
What can I expect at my initial consultation?
Once an appointment has been made with Dr Maguire our staff will organise an x-ray of your hands/wrists on the day of your consultation to assist Dr Maguire in excluding any other potential causes for your symptoms. These x-rays are usually bulk billed with no out of pocket expense to the patient.
What can I expect following my appointment?
Following your consultation if operative management is believed to be the best option for you, we can begin organising surgery in our outpatient facility. Prior to your surgery you will be required to sign a consent form and Dr Maguire will go through this with you either during your initial consultation or during a follow up consultation. Our staff will then communicate with you regarding the scheduled surgery date and what you will need to do pre-operatively.
