Gold Coast Hand Surgeon Dr Michael Maguire performs USGCTR or Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release. USGCTR  is an Ultra Minimally Invasive Technique which Dr Maguire has pioneered in Queensland. This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic making it extremely safe. The technique uses ultrasound guidance and utilises extremely small instrumentation via a 1-2mm puncture wound at the wrist. USGCTR  allows patients to resume normal activity and manual work faster compared to the recovery following traditional Open Carpal Tunnel Release. This wide awake surgery is much safer for elderly patients. The Ultra Minimally Invasive Technique is preferred by athletes such as cyclists as they can return to sport and training much sooner. Please watch the video below to understand the procedure better.

Here at the Gold Coast Carpal Tunnel Clinic we offer consultation, diagnosis, imaging, non-operative interventions and surgery all in the one clinic.

The clinic is an outpatient based facility, which means, unlike private hospitals we can utilise the Medicare Safety Net to financially assist any patient who is covered under the Medicare system in Australia. If you have reached the Medicare Safety Net threshold, up to 80% of your out of pocket costs may be subsidised by Medicare.

For patients suffering from bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome you will almost certainly trigger the Medicare Safety Net after your first surgery and receive up to 80% of your out of pocket expenses following the second surgery.

Whether you are privately insured or not, DVA or under Workers Compensation the clinic can help sufferers of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome find relief on the day. Surgery can be usually be scheduled very quickly following your initial consultation.

Using the latest Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tunnel Release and Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release Techniques surgery at the Gold Coast Carpal Tunnel Clinic is performed using “Wide Awake Surgery” without the need for a general anaesthetic or the associated costs of an Anaesthetist’s bill or Assistant fee.

Surgery is performed under regional or local anaesthetic block. All blocks are performed under Ultrasound Guidance to ensure an accurate, effective and most importantly a safe anaesthetic. Click here for more information on Local Anaesthetic blocks.
